KashmirPedia is a website that is built to preserve and promote the culture, literature, tradition, languages, religion, people and much more about Kashmir.

KashmirPedia is a civil campaign to support the cultural, traditional and literary legacy of Kashmir. As the world is advancing, people are adapting to newer and more modern ways of communication, entertainment, work environment and inter-personnel relationships, this has led them to forget, rather disown their cultural and traditional inheritances. Kashmir has a rich, diverse and tremendous literary and cultural legacy, which is slowly fainting deep into the layers of inattention, and improper concern.

Literature of Kashmir dates back as old as centuries, with versatile poets, masterful storytellers, eminent scholars, insightful philosophers and attentive chronographs. It has immense literary records in Sanskrit, Persian and Kashmiri. Initially, Kashmir had amounts of literature in Sanskrit and Kashmiri only, however, as the influence of Persian immigration in 14th and 15th century began, it overpowered the Kashmiri society, Kashmiris adopted Persian language rapidly. During the rule of Zain-Ul-Aabideen (1420-70), Persian found a strong developmental support from Kashmiris as well as their rulers. Zain-Ul-Aabideen ordered an establishment of Dar-Ul-Tarjuma, or a house of translation, where scholars were recruited to translate textual records from and into Sanskrit, Kashmiri and Persian.

Kashmir has had different forms of poetry and literary expressions over its splendid past. Before Persian bloomed into Kashmir, vaakhs [by Lalh Deadh], shruks [by Noorudeen in Kashmiri, derived from Shloka in Sanskrit] existed, which with the adaption of Persian were substituted by ghazals, masnavi, rubaíe.

If we continue over looking, we may soon be standing with a present where we would learn about Kashmir and its legacy only from the encyclopedia and historians; and ultimately we will have a future with nothing from our past.

In present time of global networking, we have chosen internet as one of the media to spread the awareness among the masses, particularly people of Kashmir about the Legacy of Kashmir through KashmirPedia. KashmirPedia is a platform that unites and collect as much as possible authentic information and records about the legacy of Kashmir, that ranges from the inattention to attention. Our mission is simple, yet difficult to achieve without your help; "A campaign to preserve Legacy of Kashmir."
